Asbestos fibers were found in talc used for production of cosmetics. At present it is common knowledge that talc deposits include also natural impurity only of amphibole asbestos (anthophyllite and tremolite). In many countries existing standards allow definite quantity of amphibole asbestos to be present in the substances. At the production of talc amphibole asbestos is not added artificially.
We would like to note that chrysotile asbestos is not a component of talc. Producers of talc don’t use chrysotile as an additional component for the final product. So, chrysotile industry has nothing to do with these cases. This fact is fundamental because health hazard of acid resisting amphibole asbestos is scientifically proved, and use of chrysotile asbestos with short half-period is safe in controlled conditions.
One term “asbestos” for two chemically different types of asbestos fibers lead to incorrect perception of true properties of chrysotile.
